Shelby American certainly hit one out of the park this time. Take a look at the 2015 Shelby GT, the carmaker’s upgrade package for the 50th anniversary Ford Mustang. The beautiful car was recently spotted at a Goodrich commercial shoot in California, and we think the pictures speak for themselves.
What Makes the 2015 Shelby GT350 Special?
Car enthusiasts will almost certainly enjoy what they find when they take a peek under the hood of the Shelby. The GT350, for example, boasts a 5.2-liter V8 engine that draws more than 500 horsepower and delivers more than 400 pounds per foot of torque. When all is said and done, the car could boast as high as 525 horsepower, though it remains to be seen. Most industry pundits agree that it will probably be somewhere closer to 510 horsepower.
That much power means there’s a good chance the machine could go from 0 to 60 mph in an astonishing 3.9 seconds, according to Car and Driver. Beyond that, some think the Shelby GT can hit 100 mph in 8.7 seconds.
The Shelby GT is built for everyday use but also with the racetrack in mind. As such, motorists will certainly enjoy the impressive machine’s versatility.
“The all-new Shelby GT350 is a thrilling, world-class car,” Ford’s Steve Ling recently said of the car that’s priced at $52,995. “From the all-new independent suspensions – a first for a Shelby – to the powerful engine and superb brakes, this car is simply amazing.”
So, What Else Is Under the Hood?
If you’re going to take a stab at making your interpretation of the 50th anniversary Ford Mustang, you’re certainly not going to compromise on your upgrade kit. The Shelby GT350 proves that honorably.
Among other features, the Shelby GT:
Is powered through the rear wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission
Features a tweaked Torsen limited-slip differential
Boasts an injection-molded carbon fiber composite grill opening
Features a shock tower brace that hardens the chassis to improve handling in rigid environments
Has MagneRide dampers
Includes a noticeably new splitter and new side skirts
Includes four tailpipes and a downforce-generating rear diffuser
Are You Drooling Yet?
Ford brass says the Shelby GT350 was designed with the places everyone loves to drive in mind. Those windy back roads rife with twists and turns. Those elevation changes where you’re surrounded by forest. The car also works wonders on the racetrack with precise handling and impeccable braking capabilities.
The car underwent countless tests before a finalized model was determined. The designers say that they took one of the best machines ever built – the 2015 Ford Mustang – and figured out what they could do to improve the driver experience. The combination of high-quality materials and intelligent people certainly produced the desired results.
One Last Thing
Here’s another little caveat that should pique your interest a little more. If for whatever reason you’re not already on the edge of your seat, Ford has confirmed that the Shelby GT350 won’t have a speed governor. That, coupled with the lighter engine, could produce speeds somewhere in the 185 mpg range.
Are we having fun yet?
