Ferrari electrification rumors have swirled for a few years, especially with other automakers doing the same. In 2023, the Italian luxury car manufacturer said 60% of its lineup will split between fully electric and hybrid vehicles. That said, there wasn’t much clarity on what EV Ferrari will make in the future. Now, we know more about what’s to come in the next couple of years. 

The first Ferrari EV will be an SUV, and the manufacturer will reveal it in late 2025. Once it arrives in 2026, the public will be able to purchase this revolutionary vehicle. Switching to electric motors is significant because of its place in celebrity culture and various media. While the Stradale and Spider should remain with gas-powered engines, it’s a vital step forward in making these cars more sustainable.

In fact, spy shots have captured footage of the vehicle roaming the streets of Maranello. For instance, the headlights mimic those of the Ferrari Roma. This coupe is one of the manufacturer’s best vehicles for driving solo or with your partner. Then, the vehicle’s body looks similar to a Maserati Levante, one of the company’s luxury SUVs. Ferrari used to own Maserati, but the latter has belonged under the Stellantis umbrella since 2021. The wheels and aerodynamic covers appear to be brand-new features.  

What Should You Know About the Ferrari EV?

Mum’s the word regarding Ferrari’s electric SUV, as the manufacturer hasn’t confirmed much outside the car’s existence. However, details about the vehicle have started to emerge in 2024. For instance, a June report from Reuters revealed the Ferrari EV will cost at least $535,000, considering the automaker will open a new manufacturing plant to boost production. The price tag is high, and it could increase with advanced features. 

The new production plant will be in Maranello, Italy, where the other Ferraris are made. With the new facility, Ferrari will have extra resources to produce its desired hybrids and EVs. According to the Reuters report, the plant should be operational by the end of 2024. While the first car hasn’t debuted yet, Ferrari is already developing a second EV. This news would be welcome, considering the reduced EV emissions and ecological friendliness. 

How Will Performance Change in a Ferrari EV?

Traditionalists may be skeptical of electric sports cars. These luxury vehicles have used fuel for nearly a century, so why change now? The upcoming Ferrari EV could be even faster than past models. With electric sports cars, you get instant torque and more efficient power transfer. Gas-powered Ferraris generate different amounts of torque based on the vehicle’s speed, but that won’t matter with an electric motor. 

The next big question for Ferrari fans is how much horsepower the EV will have. These sports cars can reach up to 769 horsepower with the Stradale, so it wouldn’t be surprising if the new model gets closer to the 1,000 mark. While powerful motors are fun, the Ferrari motor must have solid battery capacity. Shorter drives may be feasible in Europe, but road trips in America get harder with an EV. 

What Has Ferrari Said About the EV?

There is plenty of speculation regarding the next Ferrari electric car. That said, it’s worth seeing what the automaker’s top brass says about the vehicle. While they haven’t said much, viewing their official statements are worth viewing. 

When Ferrari’s E-Building opened in 2024, CEO Benedetto Vigna said he trusts people will enjoy the electric lineup. 

“The final judge will be the client,” Vigna told CNBC in an interview. “More people have started to drive our electric Ferrari, and they have a good feeling. The driving traits are there.”

At Italian Tech Week in September 2024, the CEO said Ferrari is “fully on track” to unveil its EV SUV by the fourth quarter of 2025. This time of the year is typical for automaker announcements because they want to generate enthusiasm for the following year’s models. While new cars are breaking budgets, it might be worth splurging on a Ferrari if you can get your hands on it. 

Have Other Sports Cars Gone Electric? 

Ferrari’s revealing new EV is a milestone for the luxury automobile industry. However, they’re not the first to reach this point. Here are a few notable announcements predating Ferrari’s future electric car:

• Porsche Taycan: A rival to Ferrari, Porsche has already entered the EV landscape with the Taycan. The electric sports car gets up to 402 horsepower with 302 lb-ft of torque. 
• Audi RS e-tron GT: Audi was one of the first luxury brands to unveil an electric car. In 2020, the German automaker unveiled the e-tron GT, which shares a platform with the Taycan.
• Lotus Evija: If you have speedy intentions, the Lotus Evija could be up your alley.  This electric hypercar boasts over 2,000 horsepower, making it faster than your typical racecars.
• Maserati GranTurismo Folgore: While the Evija is fast, the GranTurismo Folgore holds its own. The electric Maserati debuted in 2023 and can accelerate up to 202 mph.
